Working from Home Behaviours

Your cultural and behaviour patterns do not come about by chance.  They are developed by specific actions that you take, as a Leader, to encourage their practice and embed them into your business.

As an example, let’s consider how behaviours and the work of leadership takes place among the people and in context of a complex organisation.

If we want all members in the team to have the confidence to take leadership baton from time to time, then it is not something we can just wish for.  We encourage it to happen.

In team dynamics in the office, we recognise individual patterns.  We know from observation who on the team:

  • Initiates the new ideas.
  • Has the decision making power
  • Wants to lead but somehow doesn’t get to
  • Has the ear of the Leader
  • Never wants to step out of their comfort zone.

When working from home, distancing makes it more difficult to recognise these patterns. It’s harder to encourage the right cultural and behaviours – to maintain them in your business.

But encourage you must. Although this is a new way of working for both you and your team, you still need to maintain your business – and customer focus.

There are challenges that will surface with long term remote working.  They are lurking just around the corner.

There are specific actions that you can take, as a Leader, to encourage a healthy culture and behaviours when working from home and embed them into your business.
